I’m a huge fan of all of Eli Roth’s films, so when I heard there was a new 4K restoration of his director’s cut of Cabin Fever getting select theatrical screenings, I was already excited.

When I learned that one of these screenings would be happening in my hometown of Las Vegas as part of the Days of the Dead horror convention and that Eli Roth would be attending alongside members of the cast for a pre-show conversation and Q&A my excitement immediately escalated.

Being invited to moderate that Q&A was a genuine honor and an experience I’ll never forget.

The special screening was presented by Lionsgate in partnership with Days of the Dead and Dangerous Entertainment.

Eli Roth was joined by Cerina Vincent, Jordan Ladd, Rider Strong, and James DeBello, and together they gave the audience a genuinely special experience. They shared stories about how they each came onto the project, how the film came together, the challenges they faced on set, and how despite some a lot of adversity they had a great experience, bonded and formed lasting friendships. It was candid, funny, and full of the kind of behind-the-scenes insight you rarely get outside of experiences like this.

Eli also spoke about why the 4K scan was important to him, explaining how the restoration goes beyond sharper images. It brings back color accuracy, shadow detail, and visual information that had faded or been flattened in the editing process and over time, giving audiences access to elements of the film that have never seen before.

After the conversation wrapped and the lights went down, the movie began and what followed turned an already beloved film into one of my all-time favorite nights at the theater.

Cabin Fever is a movie made for communal viewing. From the very first frame, the audience was locked in – laughing, squirming, reacting together. And honestly, the night opened my eyes in a way I didn’t expect. As much as I love film, we live in a time where most of our viewing is done via streaming, at the mercy of whatever screen we happen to be watching. I didn’t fully appreciate the value of true 4K restorations until seeing this on the big screen.

The new scan is stunning. The colors are rich and vibrant, and the gloriously gory, gross details pop like never before. Scenes that once felt dark or washed out are now fully realized, revealing textures and moments that had previously been lost. Sitting there watching Cabin Fever in a packed theater honestly made me feel like a teenager again.

There’s a reason Eli Roth’s name sits among the greats. His balance of humor, horror, awkwardness, and genuine heart is on full display here. Going back to the beginning and experiencing Cabin Fever with an audience exactly the way it was meant to be seen was not only like hopping into a time machine but also a reminder of just how powerful theatrical horror can be.

This film, and this experience, serve as a perfect reminder of why so many of us fell in love with movie theaters in the first place. If you have the opportunity to catch this 4K restoration in a theater, do yourself a favor and go. You won’t regret it.
