Scissors is a mean-spirited, no-apologies slasher that knows exactly what it is and who it’s for.
Directed by and starring B.J. Hendricks and Rob Mulligan, the film centers around a sadistic killer targeting the LGBTQ+ community who are looking for a little fun with glory hole encounters. It leans hard into exploitation-era instincts while framing its violence through a modern lens—uncomfortable by design and unapologetic about it.
While Scissors was made on an extremely low-budget production, the overall quality and visual presentation far surpass what you’d expect at that level. In fact, the film could easily pass for a film in the $200K–$500K range. Hendricks and Mulligan clearly understand how to stretch limited resources, they work around them intelligently, keeping the movie visually sharp, confident, and focused on what matters most: atmosphere, kills, and momentum.
The killer—dubbed The Glory Hole Killer—is the film’s most effective weapon. Brutal, original, and nasty in execution, the character channels the sleazier side of grindhouse slashers while still feeling timely. The violence never lets up as the film progresses, and while not every moment lands perfectly, the intent is always clear: this is horror meant to provoke, disturb, and entertain fans who crave something raw.
The film’s primary weakness lies in the script, where the dialogue can feel uneven at times. That said, slasher films have never been a genre known for pristine writing, and here it doesn’t hurt the experience. If anything, the roughness fits the film’s grindhouse DNA and doesn’t derail the momentum or impact of the kills.
Veteran genre presence Eric Roberts adds a familiar face to the cast, but Scissors isn’t built around name recognition. It’s driven by concept, attitude, and a clear love of the genre. In a moment where slashers are seeing a genuine resurgence, Scissors stands as another reminder that some of the boldest horror is still coming from independent filmmakers willing to take risks.
Scissors won’t be for everyone—and it doesn’t try to be. But for horror fans actively seeking fearless, low-budget slashers that punch above their weight, this one delivers.
